Floral designer, interior designer and talented painter Tanya List shares this home with her husband Ry and craft-loving daughter Reid. “We moved from Toronto to Muskoka about four years ago. [Toronto] was lovely, but once we had Reid I craved moving home to my hometown of Muskoka. It’s amazing here with lots of trees, over 300 lakes, and tons of room for a little kiddo to run around.”
Name: Tanya List , her husband Ry and their five-year-old daughter Reid Location: Muskoka, Canada Size: 1,800 square feet Years lived in: 4 years, owned
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: Ry is a pilot and is SUPER handy. Almost all the renovations we have done ourselves and with the help of a good friend Brent. We have made tons of the items in the house ourselves: the airplane-prop coffee table, dining table, all the art ect.
I’m a massive fan of paint; I will spray paint anything. So many of the items in our house we bought for next to nothing, spray painted and gave it a new life. A running joke is that if it’s left on the side of the road it has my name on it…I have to admit, I’m pretty pretty damn good at finding a deal.
What is your favorite room and why? Favourite room to hang out in is the living room, simply because I’m addicted to hanging out by the fire. It gets really cold here in Muskoka in the winter (as a write this it’s -27 plus the wind chill). Reid and I sometimes even sleep by the fire…I’m addicted to the heat!!!
Favourite room for design would be Reid’s playroom. It has tons of colour and pattern just the way it should be. If I could spend the rest of my days decorating kids rooms I would be the happiest girl in the world.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I do wish that Reid’s bedroom and our bedroom were on the same floor.
I also need a larger studio; we are building a huge garage in the spring to accommodate my ever growing business…also outside I would love my own basketball court!!
Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? I’m obsessed with the surf movie Blue Crush; the main character Anne Marie would like my house I think.
Any advice for creating a home you love? For me I just buy what I love. If you love it, you will find a place for it in your home:) And of course the more colour added, the better!
Thanks, Tanya!
