It influences not only the overall appearance and feel of your living room, but also the way others perceive it! If you notice that your living room simply does not feel right, perhaps you might have a furniture layout problem. Let us see if perhaps you are creating any of these common design mistakes in your own home. By the time you finish reading this article, you will know how to properly plan out your living room design.
As mentioned above, the placement of your furniture plays an extremely important role when it comes to a small living room furniture layout. One of these fundamental principles is placing large pieces of furniture at one end of your room. The problem with this is that you do not have a lot of space to work with. This means that any large piece of furniture will simply overpower the small area which you have in front of it.
The solution to this problem would be to place large sectional couches or sectionals so that they will fill up the empty space at one side of your living room furniture layout. There are two ways you can go about this. First of all, you can place the couches or sectionals opposite each other so that their seats to face each other. Obviously this is going to cause some traffic flow problems as people have to turn from one to the other in order to visit with each other. However, it is an effective solution as it will create a natural flow through your room.
Another of the common layout mistakes people make is placing large and expensive items such as couches and sectionals on low quality floors. This is actually very easy to do. Why? It is because the first thing most people notice when they walk into your home is the floor. If your floor is really bad, people will automatically decide that it will be too hard to sit on so they will avoid coming inside.
One of the most common layout mistakes people make when it comes to sectional couches and sectional sofas is to place the seating on top of a low quality wall. It is important to understand that the focal point of your living room furniture layout should be the focal point of your room, and the wall should be the center of attention. The problem with putting a sofa or sectional sofa right above a low wall is that the rest of your furniture items will be obscured. This means that you will end up with a disheveled look which is counter balanced by the larger piece of furniture which was placed above it.
In addition to ignoring the space planning aspect of buying living room sectional sofas, people also tend to get caught up in the actual visual appeal of their pieces. When people buy new furniture they want to be able to look at them and say wow, how nice is that? Unfortunately, many people make the mistake of trying to match a couch to a set of sectional sofas without paying attention to how their furniture items will look together. You need to pay attention to your overall space planning, your color scheme, your lighting, your architectural style and your entire home decor before you start spending money on the placement of your sofas and couches.
Another common mistake is placing the furniture on top of low traffic areas. Your sofa may be beautiful, but if you have three kids running around, or some dogs sniffing in the corner, chances are your sofa won't get as much traffic as you'd like. Low traffic areas tend to be small spaces that are easy to maneuver. Putting furniture in a high traffic corner will only cause your furniture to blend in and create a cramped feeling, which does not create the great space feel you're after.
The final mistake people make when it comes to the placement of their sofas and chairs is over looking the flow throughout the room. Seating and furniture should always go together, as if the two were one unit. If your sofa is blocking an open doorway, such as the hallway or front door, your furniture could be positioned to either the left or right of this door. Or, putting the furniture to the right of an open doorway could mean that you'll have more room to move around, but if you situate your sofa to the right of an open doorway, it will block the movement of any guests walking by your house.
